Tess Vaughn, PT, DPT, COMT, OCS, DN
I majored in Psychology at North Georgia College (NGC) in Dahlonega, GA and remained at NGC for a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy in 1996. I worked in a variety of settings after graduation, but eventually landed in private practice in my home town of Winterville, GA with a focus on spine and orthopedics. It was important to me, as the owner of a PT clinic, to make sure I could offer the best care to my community based on experience, research and evidence; therefore, I returned to school for my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Regis University. As a goal to provide exceptional care, I received a certification in orthopedic manual therapy, became recognized as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association twice, and became certified in Dry Needling to continue to support the health and wellness of my community. I understand you have a choice for your physical therapy needs and I want you to feel confident in your decision to choose us.
Fast forward 26 years of clinical practice and I realized I wanted to laser focus on why I became a PT initially. I wanted to slow down to spend more one on one time with my clients and focus not only on their injuries, but also the thoughts that control their behaviors. As my kids were growing up, I realized I would limit jumping on the trampoline with them, I wouldn't race my son to the car, or I'd have to limit how far I ran because I may leak from pelvic floor issues or there was pain somewhere in my body. I realized it wasn't the pain or the leaking that bothered me as much as I wasn't able to be the active mom or athlete that defined who I was. Those are the thoughts that control the behaviors. Those are the motivators we need to put the work in to get healthy, stay active, and stay strong! I understand what it's like to have aches and pains, injuries, or leak when I run or jump rope at CrossFit. I have been a runner since I was 14 years old and there are times I go for a run and it feels like I've never run a day in my life! Our bodies are like that and it's okay, just keep moving in some way. I understand what it takes to raise kids, build a business, and still want, or NEED, to exercise or run. How just even a little bit of time is needed for your sanity, your confidence, your fuel for an adventure. No one wants an injury or a pain to side line them and you certainly don't want to be told to stop exercising or rest or have the run around of doctor's visits, xrays/MRIs, etc. Sometimes the answer can be as simple as tweaking how you move, how you breathe, how you run, or how you lift. Let's decide together what is best for you. The Joy of Living is inside you. LIVE IT! |
